BERLIN, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Famed actress Meryl Streep will serve as this year's jury president at the Berlin International Film Festival in February.

The announcement, made Wednesday, marks the first time the 66-year-old actress will appear as a film festival juror in her more than 30-year career.

"It is a thrill to return to the festival under any circumstances, but it is with great relish and anticipation I look forward to jury duty," said Streep in a statement released by festival organizers. "The responsibility is somewhat daunting, as I have never been President of anything before, and I hope I can come up to the precedent set by the distinguished juries of preceding years. Grateful for the honor."

The Ricki and the Flash actress has attended the Berlin-based festival several times, honored with the Berlinale Camera in 1999, the Silver Bear award in 2003, and seen in competitor A Prairie Home Companion in 2006. Streep was given the Honorary Golden Bear lifetime achievement award in 2012.

The Berlin International Film Festival will run next year from Feb. 11 to Feb. 21.
