LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Ashley Benson is facing heat from netizens after she reportedly said she is considering wearing a Cecil the Lion Halloween costume.

According to USA Today, Benson asked her fans whether they liked "this Cecil the lion costume" in the caption of a photo of her wearing a lion costume. Soon after, per the report, she deleted the caption and re-wrote it.

"Help! I can't decide on my Halloween costume this year! What do you guys think of this lion costume?" the new caption reads.

The quick change may have come too late for the Pretty Little Liars actress, who continues to attract controversy as news of the apparent slip-up circulates. Some fans are defending the celebrity, however, referencing the fact the costume's seller, Yandy.com, actually first named the costume "Cecil the Lion"

The untimely death of Cecil the lion became a controversial issue after it was revealed an American hunter stalked the lion, although allegedly unaware of his status as a local celebrity, for sport in Zimbabwe in July. A country-wide favorite, the animal was reportedly lured from the country's Hwange National Park by a guide in order to be killed by U.S.-native Walter Palmer.

"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt," Palmer said in a statement in September.

It is reported Ashley Benson uploaded the above photo originally referring to her costume as one of Cecil the lion. Online, the costume is in fact called "Cecil the Lion." Photo by itsashbenzo/Instagram
