Mariah Carey and new beau James Packer make their red carpet debut

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Music superstar Mariah Carey and new boyfriend, Australian billionaire James Pecker made their first formal appearance as a couple Monday when they attended the New York premiere of The Intern.

Carey arrived on the red carpet in an eloquent dark red gown and black jacket. The couple held hands and even shared a kiss while posing for the camera's.

"They were really cute together!" an eyewitness told Entertainment Tonight, adding that the couple "seemed very happy."

"James was leading Mariah through the theatre room and had his hand on her back. Mariah looked very proud to be there with James," the eyewitness said of the couple's outing. "He seemed a little more under the radar than she is but looked at her very adoringly and happy."

The pop star attended the screening because the couple are big fans of Anne Hathaway who also stars with Robert De Niro in the inspirational comedy film. "We love her. [She's] the best," Carey said referring to Hathaway.

In June, the couple was spotted getting cozy together while on vacation in Capri, Italy and Cannes, France. Carey's new romance comes eight months after husband Nick Cannon officially filed for divorce. The couple separated after six years of marriage in 2014, and are parents to 4-year-old fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan.

Currently, Carey is working on a children's book based on her Christmas hit All I Want for Christmas is You due to hit shelves on Nov. 10.
