LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Nickelback's Chad Kroeger was photographed without his wedding band this week as wife Avril Lavigne announced their separation. Kroeger, 40, was pictured outside of his Los Angeles home packing up his car Wednesday, the same day Lavigne revealed their separation on Instagram. US Magazine reports the rocker packed two guitars, boxes and a fan into his car with the help of a "young woman."

"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," Lavigne wrote in her statement. "Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
Both Kroeger and Lavigne dealt with medical issues during their two-year marriage. The "Complicated" singer revealed in late July her struggles with Lyme disease, which kept her "bedridden for five months."
"I felt like I couldn't breath," she told People at the time. "I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying."
Her husband was forced to cancel all remaining shows during Nickelback's second leg of their tour in June due to vocal chord surgery. According to a statement on the band's website, Kroeger was diagnosed with an operable cyst on his voice box.
