LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Runaways' bassist Jackie Fuchs aka Jackie Fox (stage name) has called out fellow rockstar Chrissie Hynde for controversial comments she made regarding rape Tuesday. Hynde recently sat down with Sunday Times magazine blaming herself for being sexually assaulted back when she was 21. The Pretenders frontwoman was then heavily criticized by fans and the media for echoing victim blaming sentiments.

"Technically speaking, however you want to look it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility," Hynde said. "You can't [expletive] about with people, especially people who wear 'I Heart Rape and 'On Your Knees' badges. Those motorcycle gangs, that's what they do."
Speaking with Yahoo Music, Fuchs expressed her own disappointment in Hynde's remarks and how the fellow women's rock pioneer is sending out the wrong message.
"I found myself being surprisingly angry" after reading Hynde's statements, Fuchs said. One of the takeaway messages, she says, is "don't put your heroes on pedestals. But I don't want to cast a stone at Chrissie Hynde — just at that one particular statement. Because it's a really dangerous message."
Fuchs, who in July opened up about her own experience with sexual assault knows first hand what goes through a victims head. Something that she feels Hynde's is unaware of.
"It bothers me, because I don't know that she's gone out there and talked to [other] rape victims, the bassist said. "If you had seen the messages that people sent me, so many of them were about 'I've always thought it was my fault.' We already think that anyway. So this is just telling people who've recently gone through this experience of being raped or abused, 'Yeah, you're right, it is your fault.' But there's no such thing as asking for it. And poor judgment is not an invitation to rape, nor an excuse for it."
Chrissie Hynde's autobiography Reckless which details the night of her sexual assault will be released Sept. 8.
