LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Dancer Peta Murgatroyd won't be stepping alongside Andy Grammer this season as previously expected on the next season of Dancing With The Stars.

The television personality revealed to People magazine this week her need to undergo ankle surgery. The operation and recovery will have her sidelined from the show for "six to eight weeks."

"It was devastating news for me," she told the outlet.

Murgatroyd explained she "felt great" during her summer-long DWTS tour and early rehearsals with her musician partner, but one day suddenly felt "something was not right."

"I got my MRI results back and it was a really bad diagnosis," the 29-year-old said. "It showed I had four torn ligaments and a floating piece of bone at the back of my ankle. My doctor said I needed surgery and I knew I needed to put my health first if I want to keep dancing on the show into my 30s."

The dancer revealed Grammer had specifically asked to be partnered with her, and felt she was letting him down. "But he understood and has been a great guy about it," she said. The "Honey, I'm Good" singer's new partner will be announced Wednesday morning on Good Morning America along with the full season 21 cast.

"I'm just looking forward to being back on my feet as soon as possible and being part of the show again," Murgatroyd said. The dancer's surgery is scheduled for September.
