Julianne Hough, Brooks Laich make public appearance after engagement

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Julianne Hough and fiance Brooks Laich hit the red carpet together Sunday night for their first public appearance since their engagement.

The couple appeared at the Television Academy's Emmy Awards Choreographer Nominee Reception in Beverly Hills Sunday night. Laich, a 32-year-old professional hockey player, reportedly asked Dancing With The Stars judge, 27, to marry him earlier this month.

Hough's brother, Derek, told reporters he "couldn't be happier" for the soon-to-be married couple. "I knew it was happening within the first month they were dating," he told People. "It was one of those things where it was instant and that smile and glow she's had hasn't dimmed ever since she met [him.] That's a special thing."

Hough was gifted with a 6-carat diamond ring to honor her engagement with Laich. "It's crazy!" Dancing co-star Witney Carson told Us Magazine. "It almost blinded me when I saw it. It's so big. I love it."
