Matthew McConaughey's wife Camila becomes U.S. citizen

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Brazilian-born model Camila Alves became a U.S. citizen Tuesday.

The 33-year-old star celebrated her naturalization with husband Matthew McConaughey and their three children. Alves and the 45-year-old actor both marked the occasion by sharing a family photo on Twitter.

"Happy to say I now hold an American passport! I have so much respect and appreciation for this country. #newuscitizen," the model wrote. McConaughey added, "Congratulations Camila on getting your U.S. citizenship today - another fellow and great American."

Alves and McConaughey have been together since 2006, and married in June 2012. The model originally hails from Itambacuri, Brazil, and moved to Los Angeles at age 15. She and the actor share 7-year-old son Levi, 5-year-old daughter Vida and 2-year-old son Livingston.

In addition to her modeling work, Alves is known for hosting season 3 of Bravo series Shear Genius. McConaughey last appeared in Interstellar with Anne Hathaway, and is scheduled for The Free State of Jones with Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Gold with Corey Stoll.
