LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy announced they have split in a joint statement Tuesday.

The fictional Muppet couple revealed the news on social media amid a rash of recent celebrity breakups and divorces, including Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock.

"After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable romantic squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship," Kermit the Frog wrote. "We will continue to work together on television (The Muppets/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe."

"However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for understanding," he finished. The character later "confirmed" he is dating an ABC publicity rep named Denise.

Word Garner and Affleck will divorce broke in July, while Stefani and Rossdale and McEntire and Blackstock announced their respective separations Monday. Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton also recently revealed they will split after four years of marriage.
