NEW YORK, July 29 (UPI) -- Boardwalk Empire alum Michael Shannon is to play James Tyrone Jr. in the Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced Wednesday.

Produced in association with Ryan Murphy, the play will also feature Murphy's American Horror Story collaborator Jessica Lange, as well as Gabriel Byrne and John Gallagher Jr.

Jonathan Kent will direct the Roundabout's production of the classic stage drama, which will begin preview performances March 31 and open officially April 19. This is a limited engagement through June 26 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway.

"Elegant in its simplicity, yet limitless in its scope, Long Day's Journey Into Night is the tale of an ordinary summer's day with extraordinary consequences," a news release said. "Drawing so heavily from the author's personal history that it could only be produced posthumously, the story of the Tyrone family and their battle to unearth -- and conceal -- a lifetime of secrets continues to reveal itself to audiences as one of the most profound and powerful plays ever brought to the stage."
