LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) -- Eva Longoria slammed an Australian journalist who criticized her for appearing in an eyeglasses campaign this week on Twitter.

The 40-year-old American actress hit back at Sydney Morning Herald reporter Jenna Clarke after the writer claimed Longoria lied about her vision to land a Specsavers gig in an article published Sunday.

"If you had done your journalistic duty (it's actually not that hard, more thorough google job or one phone call to my camp and they could have provided you any documentation) you would see that I have been wearing READING glasses since May 3, 2013," Longoria wrote Monday.

"The reason your lazy journalist research of 'googling' didn't turn up more pictures of me on the 'red carpet' is because I don't need glasses to see far, only to READ," she continued. "So next time you want to write an article calling someone 'shameful' why don't you do your research because that is your responsibility as a 'journalist.'"

Clarke called the star a "serial offender when it comes to selling out in a not so subtle way," and complained of her "shameful shilling." She subsequently appeared on 96FM Breakfast, saying Longoria had involved her 7 million Twitter followers unnecessarily.

"Well Jenna I didn't appreciate you writing LIES!" the actress responded Tuesday. Longoria promoted Specsavers last week in Auckland, New Zealand, and also has an endorsement deal with French beauty and cosmetics company L'Oreal.
