WASHINGTON, July 7 (UPI) -- Dark Horse has just signed a contract to produce scripted shows through Universal Cable Productions (UCP).

The announcement comes days before Comic-Con, and The Boston Herald reports four shows are currently in the works for the comic book and television giant. The collaboration between the two companies has been in the works for the last year, and in that time they have worked with comic book writers and artists to create original content.

The shows, which are written as well as illustrated by the Dark Horse comic artists, are a new venture for the companies. Dark Horse previously put out film works like Hellboy, R.I.P.D and The Mask, is looking to expand its works.

"Dark Horse Entertainment has an incredible roster of fantastical, witty and mind bending stories," said Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President of Development, Universal Cable Productions. Though UCP and Dark Horse have been working together, the president and founder of Dark Horse media Mike Richardson is an executive producer on Syfy's original show Dark Places according to Deadline.

No dates or channels for the current UCP-Dark Horse shows have been announced, but more information is expected to follow
