Ben Affleck breaks Twitter silence

WASHINGTON, July 7 (UPI) -- Ben Affleck, 42, has broken his silence on Twitter, though he isn't talking about his break up with Jennifer Garner.

Affleck who has long been known for his political views and activism tweeted Monday about the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Affleck tweeted a thank you at Secretary of State John Kerry for the appointment of Tom Perriello in the Africa Great Lakes region and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Affleck, he founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, has worked over the years to bring attention to the importance of U.S. aid in the Congo and Africa. Aside from the tweet to the secretary of state and Perriello, Affleck has all but remained silent since the announcement about the split from Garner and his recent trip with Garner.
