LONDON, May 28 (UPI) -- Emilia Clarke could have been Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation but decided to turn down the lead role because of nudity.

The Game of Thrones actress has had her fair share of nude scenes as Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO show.

As Marie Claire U.K.' s July cover star, she admitted that the role of Anastasia would've had her spending more time naked on-screen than she would've wanted.

"I really wanted to work with Sam Taylor-Johnson because she's f--king amazing. But there is a huge amount of nudity in the film," she said. "I'll never say 'I'm never doing nudity,' because I've already done it, but I thought I might get stuck in a pigeonhole that I would have struggled to get out of."

During the first episode of Game of Thrones, Clarke stripped down and attributes viewer's criticism as to why she is uncomfortable baring her body.

"I remember when everything first kicked off, I Googled myself. You just do; it's instinct. But never again. It just takes that one person who says, 'She's a fat bitch,' and you're like, 'I'm a fat bitch!'" she said.

In her latest role as Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys, Clarke doesn't have to worry about nudity, but instead, keeping up with the boys.

"Those [expletive] guns are super heavy," she said. "You're running with them a lot of the time, and I needed to keep up with/be better than the boys. I needed to know what to do to have Arnold go, 'Very nice.' That was my goal."

Terminator Genisys hits theaters June 30.
