Noel Gallagher says Zayn Malik shouldn't have left One Direction

NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- Former Oasis frontman, Noel Gallagher, knows a thing or two about being in a band and leaving one so Zayn Malik, may want to pay attention.

The singer, who is now part of the High Flying Birds since his Oasis departure in 2009, was asked in a Rolling Stone interview what he thought about Malik leaving One Direction. Although he has never met the now solo artist, he had some advice to give him.

"I'd say, '[expletive] get a good accountant because life is very [expletive] long,'" said the English guitarist.

Gallagher criticized Malik's reasoning to leave the group, which was based on an his urge to feel like a normal 22-year-old.

"You can be [expletive] anything that moves and gettin' paid half a million dollars a week, you [expletive] idiot. You want to be a normal 22-year-old? Have you met any normal 22-year-olds? They're [expletive] shit-for-brains," he said.

When Malik first left the band in March, he told The Sun, "It is crazy and wild and a bit mad, but at the same time I've never felt more in control in my life. And I feel like I'm doing what's right -- right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good."

Even so, the last bit of a career advice the outspoken singer left Malik with was this: "You might have wanted to be a normal 22-year-old, but you won't want to be a normal 25-year-old."

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan still make up the remaining members of One Direction and will perform on the Late Late Show with James Corden on May 14.
