LONDON, May 5 (UPI) -- As the author of the beloved Harry Potter book series, J.K. Rowling felt she had some apologizing to do for one of the characters she killed off in the books.

In the 2007 released Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book, the British author made it that Fred Weasley died during the Battle of Hogwarts. She took to Twitter on Saturday, April 2 to apologize to fans for the tragic loss.

Fans wondered why out of all the deaths during the saga, she chose to share her regrets about one of the Weasley twins. Rowling then replied to a fan who asked about Tonks or Lupin and said, "I thought I might apologise for one death per anniversary. Fred was the worst for me, so I started with him."

The author chose May 2 because it was the 17th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts.
