NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- Roseanne Barr is slowly going blind.

The 62-year-old actress said as much in an interview with The Daily Beast published Monday. Barr revealed she is losing her sight due to macular degeneration and glaucoma, and told the publication she smokes marijuana to relieve the "pressure" in her eyes.

"My vision is closing in now," she confessed. "It's something weird. But there are other weird things. [Going blind is] harsh, 'cause I read a lot, and then I thought, 'Well, I guess I could hire someone to read for me and read to me.' But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do. I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible -- y'know, living it up. My dad had it, too."

Barr came to fame as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s, and is best known for portraying Roseanne Conner on ABC sitcom Roseanne. The actress attended the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend to promote Roseanne for President!, an Eric Weinrib documentary about Barr's unsuccessful 2012 presidential campaign.
