NEW BEDFORD, Mass., April 19 (UPI) -- Actor Alton A. "Ben" Powers has died in New Bedford, Mass. He was 64.
Deadline reported his April 6 death on Saturday, but the cause was not disclosed.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass., April 19 (UPI) -- Actor Alton A. "Ben" Powers has died in New Bedford, Mass. He was 64. Deadline reported his April 6 death on Saturday, but the cause was not disclosed.
The New York-born actor was raised in Providence, R.I., where he attended the Rhode Island School of Design before becoming a standup comedian and actor, perhaps best known for his roles on the 1970s sitcom Good Times and 1980s mystery series The New Mike Hammer.
His other small-screen credits include Laugh-In, Gimme a Break, Laverne & Shirley, The New Odd Couple and The Greatest American Hero. He also appeared in the movies Cheech & Chong's Next Movie, Things Are Tough All Over and The Man Who Loved Women.
A memorial service in his honor is planned for May 3 in Providence.
