LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of the late rocker Kurt Cobain doesn't like Nirvana "that much."

The 22-year-old artist opened up about her dad and his music in an interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday. Asked if Kurt Cobain's music helped her understand his absence, Cobain replied she "[doesn't"] really like Nirvana that much."

"Sorry, promotional people, Universal," she said with a laugh, adding. "The grunge scene is not what I'm interested in. But 'Territorial Pissings' is a [expletive] great song. And 'Dumb' -- I cry every time I hear that song. It's a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself – of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation."

For Cobain not being keen of her father's band felt less awkward than being a fan.

"I was around 15 when I realized he was inescapable," she said. "He's larger than life and our culture is obsessed with dead musicians. We love to put them on a pedestal."

"If Kurt had just been another guy who abandoned his family in the most awful way possible . . . But he wasn't. He inspired people to put him on a pedestal, to become St. Kurt. He became even bigger after he died than he was when he was alive."

A fan or not, Cobain shows her respect for her father's legacy in the upcoming documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, for which she is an executive producer. The special will air on HBO May 4.
