TMZ reported that the 71-year-old folk legend was found unconscious in her Bel Air home. She was alert on her way to the hospital but placed in intensive care.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed to The Guardian that a woman from Bel Air was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

Mitchell told New York Magazine in February that she suffers from an illness called Morgellons, which causes people to believe that mysterious particles are crawling out of their skin.

"Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstor," she said of the disease. "They cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable, or mineral."

Mitchell came to prominence during the 1960s, when she wrote classics like "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Both Sides, Now." Last year, the eight-time Grammy winner released a four-disc box set called Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced.
