LOS ANGELES, March 31 (UPI) -- Megan Fox is amused by people who assume she isn't intelligent.

The 28-year-old actress addressed her critics in an interview for the April issue of Harper's Bazaar Arabia. Fox came to fame in sexy roles such as Mikaela Banes in Transformers, but told the magazine her looks are deceiving.

"I would say most people assume that I'm not very smart or educated or earnest, because I have this image that I'm sort of narcissistic, chasing attention, and wanting people to like me," she acknowledged. "It makes me laugh because I've done plenty of interviews and when you read the article from beginning to end you can see that I'm not your typical music video model."

Fox admitted she "had no idea what [she] was doing" in Transformers, and purposely took on a variety of roles in different films after leaving the franchise. The actress revealed she doesn't have "a game plan" when it comes to her career, but said motherhood gave her a sense of direction outside film.

"I'm a free-spirit mother," she said of sons Noah and Bodhi. "I don't even want to be a restrictive force on [Bodhi]; I want to be an expansive force... I want him to be inspired by me because he constantly inspires me as well. Motherhood has really deepened me and has given me so much perspective. I'm very dedicated."

Fox and husband Brian Austin Green started dating in 2004, and married in June 2010. The couple welcomed Noah in September 2012, and Bodhi followed in February 2014. The actress will next appear in an adaptation of Steve Erickson novel Zeroville with James Franco, Seth Rogen and Will Ferrell.
