Ed Sheeran confirms split from girlfriend Athina Andrelos

SYDNEY, March 26 (UPI) -- Ed Sheeran is officially single.

The 24-year-old British singer confirmed his split from girlfriend Athina Andrelos in an interview with the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Australian radio station KIIS 1065 this week.

Sheeran and Andrelos were together for over a year, and reportedly broke up after the 2015 BRIT Awards in February. The KIIS 1065 interview marked the first time the singer has discussed the split.

"Things haven't been as good and Ed hast just headed off on a world tour which will keep them apart for months," a source recently told The Mirror. "There have been a few fall outs and the latest seems to be more serious. It looks as though the relationship might have run its course."

Sheeran previously dated fellow British recording artist Ellie Goulding in 2013. The singer released his first studio album, +, in September 2011, and followed up with x in in June 2014. The record debuted atop the Billboard 200, giving Sheeran his first No. 1 album on the chart.
