LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Drew Barrymore plans to publish a new memoir.

The 40-year-old actress is writing a collection of autobiographical essays about her childhood, career and motherhood for Dutton of Penguin Books, according to an exclusive from People.

Barrymore previously detailed her dark and troubled youth in Little Girl Lost at age 15, but said the new work will be bright, "humorous, emotional and welcoming."

"We are thrilled to welcome Drew Barrymore, a true American icon, to the Dutton list, and can't wait to help bring her wonderful writing to the world," publisher Ben Sevier lauded in a statement.

The as-of-yet-untitled book will see Barrymore "living on her own at 14 ... saying goodbye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that have led to the most important thing in her life, which is motherhood."

Barrymore is the daughter of actors Jaid and John Drew Barrymore, and granddaughter to screen legend John Barrymore. She came to fame as a child actress in such films as E.T., and recently declared she "didn't really have parents" growing up.
