LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Justin Bieber had a tumultuous 2014, in which he was arrested multiple times, so it's no surprise that the 20-year-old Canadian singer is trying to make amends.

In a Facebook video posted Wednesday night, shortly after taping an appearance on Ellen, an emotional Bieber apologized for his past transgressions.

"I didn't want to come off arrogant or conceited, basically how I've been acting the past year -- year and a half," he said.

Bieber said he was "really nervous" about the taping and afraid of people's reactions to him.

"I felt awkward up there, I felt like people were judging me," he said. "I'm not who I was pretending to be."

Bieber said "being young and growing up in this business is hard," but he's ready to turn over a new leaf.

"Although what's happened in the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind and loving," he said.

Bieber did say he was nervous during his sit-down with Ellen, telling the talk show host: "I haven't been on TV in a while."

DeGeneres also asked him about the upcoming Justin Bieber roast, set to air on Comedy Central in March.

"I've done some things that might not have been the greatest," Bieber said, to laughter from the audience. "I kinda just want to be able to laugh about it -- and just own up to some of the things."
