DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez is facing criticism from the global Muslim community after snapping a series of photos in a mosque that showed more skin than is acceptable to strict believers in the faith.
The photos, uploaded to Gomez's Instagram account, show the pop star displaying her exposed ankle, as well as Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Cody Simpson and Shay Mitchell laughing and posing for photos in Dubai's Grand Mosque.
The mosque strictly forbids skirts above the ankles and public displays of affection.
Although she has since deleted the ankle shot, Gomez left the group picture up on Instagram.

The former teen idols are in Dubai to celebrate the New Year, where they have been feverishly documenting their escapades on social media.
