SAN DIEGO, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Stephen Belafonte addressed Mel B divorce reports Wednesday.

The 39-year-old producer spoke out in an interview with the Daily Mail in response to British tabloid The Sun claiming Belafonte's marriage to the former Spice Girl was "on life support" earlier this week.

"I never saw anything, is there something online about me?" he asked. "Listen, I had no idea, I didn't know, I have no idea. What was it, New York Times, or was it the LA Times, what was it? ... I'm not disputing it, I didn't know, I had no idea."

The Sun article also reported Mel B moved out of the couple's home amid rumors of abuse. The 39-year-old singer missed Saturday's episode of The X Factor after being hospitalized Thursday, and returned Sunday without her wedding ring and alleged bruises.

"No one has accused me of anything," Belafonte said in response. "Who accused me of it, did she accuse me of it, the police, the hospital, who accused me of it? I thought when you beat someone up the police or the hospital or the person you beat up says it."

Belafonte was charged with battery for attacking then-girlfriend Nicole Contreras in 2007. He previously denied hitting Mel B on Twitter, saying such comments "are quite disgusting" and "un true," and saying his wife "was very ill" when she visited the hospital.

Belafonte and Mel B started dating in February 2007, and secretly married in June of that year. The couple have one child together, 3-year-old daughter Madison Brown, and both the producer and singer have children from previous relationships.
