LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Drew Barrymore has a realistic approach when it comes to losing her baby weight.

The 39-year-old actress discussed her pregnancy pounds, motherhood and more in an interview for People's latest issue. Barrymore welcomed her second child, daughter Frankie, earlier this year, and told the magazine her children take priority over her figure and acting.

"It took nine months to build. It should take nine months to get off," she said of her baby weight. "I was like, 'Don't talk to me about how fast and fabulous you are or it came off.' That was not my experience. I'm having to work my ass off until I even think about getting it off."

Barrymore spoke to Today in November and revealed she plans to act "less and less" in order to focus on her family. The actress reiterated her sentiments in the interview, and said although she doesn't want "to abandon" acting, work "can't be at the forefront right now."

Barrymore and husband Will Kopelman have been together since 2011, and married in June 2012. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Olive, in September 2012, and Frankie followed two-and-a-half years later in April.
