Bobby Shmurda arrested by NYPD in drug investigation

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Rap artist Bobby Shmurda was arrested Tuesday by the NYPD after a long-term investigation into shootings and drug trafficking.

As part of this investigation, Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, has been under surveillance by the NYPD's newly created Brooklyn South Violence Reduction Task Force. He was arrested as he sat in a car outside Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan.

Dozens of others were arrested in the investigation who were linked to guns tied to a string of shootings in the city.

Shmurda has been previously arrested for marijuana possession and was caught with a gun on his person.
