Princess Charlene of Monaco gives birth to twins - a boy and a girl

"The princess and the children are doing well," a palace statement said.

MONACO, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Monaco's Princess Charlene has given birth to twins -- a son and a daughter, palace officials announced Wednesday.

These are the first children for Prince Albert II and his wife, who were married in 2011 after six years of dating. Albert has a 22-year-old daughter, Jazmin, and a 10-year-old son, Alexandre, from previous relationships.

"The births took place on Dec. 10, 2014 at the Maternity of the Princess Grace Hospital Monaco. The princess and the children are doing well," said a statement announcing the twins' arrival. "The Prince Jacques, Honoré, Rainier is the crown prince. In accordance with the historic custom established by the treaty of Péronne (1641), he shall receive the title of Marquis of Baux (in Provence). The Princess Gabriella, Thérèse, Marie, second child in the line of succession, shall receive the title of Countess of Carladès (in Auvergne)."

Prince Albert II is the son of Monaco's Prince Rainier III, who died in 2005, and Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, who died in 1982.
