Kate Middleton and Prince William kick off U.S. tour

A pregnant Kate Middleton and Prince William were all smiles as photographers captured their entrance into Manhattan's Upper East Side hotel Carlyle Hotel on Sunday.

NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The duke and duchess of Cambridge kicked off their tour of the United States after landing in NYC's JFK airport on Sunday.

The royal couple plans to spend three days in the United States in which they'll attend conferences for several organizations, meet with global leaders and tour the Big Apple.

A pregnant Kate Middleton and Prince William were all smiles as photographers captured their entrance into Manhattan's Upper East Side hotel Carlyle Hotel. Middleton wore a burgundy Seraphine coat, black tights and booties for her arrival, while the prince wore a dark suit and tie.

Hours later, the royals were spotted leaving their hotel as they headed to marketing mogul Sir Martin Sorrell's apartment in Manhattan for a private function for the American friends of the Royal Foundation.

Prince William will be traveling to Washington, D.C., on Monday to meet with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and to speak at the World Bank about illegal wildlife trafficking.

The royal couple is scheduled to attend a Brooklyn Nets basketball game at the Barclays Center later on Monday.

The couple are expecting their second child in April. The couple's first child, Prince George, 1, did not accompany his parents on the trip.
