NEW YORK, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The only authorized documentary about legendary Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain, will premiere on HBO in 2015, the network announced Monday.

Montage of Heck, directed by Brett Morgen, will feature unreleased music and never-before-seen photographs and writings.

Morgen said in a statement that he spent the last eight years working on the project.

Like most people, when I started, I figured there would be limited amounts of fresh material to unearth. However, once I stepped into Kurt's archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media.

Frances Bean Cobain, Cobain's daughter with Courtney Love, is the film's executive producer.

"I'm really excited for you guys to see Montage of Heck," Frances Bean wrote Monday on Twitter. "@brettmorgen created an intense yet wonderful examination of Kurt's life & art."

Cobain died in 1994 at the age of 27. His death was ruled a suicide.
