LOS ANGELES, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Bette Midler addressed the critical remarks she made about rising star Ariana Grande on Twitter and wrote that despite it all she had "a beautiful voice."

The 68-year-old actress recently slammed the former Nickelodeon star's mature look and deemed her new, sensual image "so ridiculous" in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian.

"[Young women should] trust [their] talent. You don't have to make a whore of yourself to get ahead," Midler said of Grande.

In turn, Grande took to Twitter to share a photo of a young Midler in a very revealing outfit.

"Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement!," the singer wrote Tuesday. "Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love."

Midler responded with a tweet of her own where she commended Grande for her talent and slightly denounced her former self.
