TORONTO, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Julianne Moore says her role model is Meryl Streep.

The 53-year-old actress revealed she has admired the 65-year-old star for years in an interview for Glow's winter issue. Moore told the magazine Streep inspired her to become an actress because the three-time Academy Award winner demonstrated it is possible to have a family and successful career.

"I can remember when Meryl Streep was on the cover of Time magazine when I was in high school, and I said to my dad, 'I think I want to do this,'" she recalled. "She is just such a great actress. And she's someone who has managed to have a family, a marriage and a career."

"All my mother ever said to my sister and me was, 'You can have both things. Don't shortchange yourselves. Make sure you get an education and make sure you have a job that you love and a family. That's really, really important,'" she related.

Streep married Don Gummer in 1978, and the couple have four children. The actress is known for such films as Kramer vs. Kramer (1978), Sophie's Choice (1982) and The Iron Lady (2011), and has received 18 Academy Award nominations, more than any other actor in history.

Moore herself has received four Academy Award nominations for Boogie Nights (1997), The End of the Affair (1999), Far From Heaven and The Hours (2002), which co-starred Streep and Nicole Kidman. The actress and Bart Freundlich married in 2003, and have a son and daughter together.

Streep last appeared as the Chief Elder in Phillip Noyce's adaptation of The Giver, and will portray The Witch in Disney film Into the Woods come December. Moore will debut as President Alma Coin in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 on Friday, and is scheduled for Still Alice in 2015.
