LAKE ST. CLAIR, Mich., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Amy Adams had a meltdown when she turned 40.

The American Hustle actress admitted to such in an interview for Vogue's December issue. Adams may be an A-list celebrity with a successful career, but she told the magazine she was still unsatisfied when her birthday rolled around in August.

"I was like, 'I'm 40 and I still care what people think of me; I still don't do laundry so I'm always out of things; I'm just not a grown-up at all,' and I had this expectation that I would be by this age," she recalled.

"It wasn't, 'Oh, I'm getting old and I'm going to lose something vibrant about myself,'" she related. "It was more that I was just so disappointed with myself. It's just awful. Any chance for self-loathing."

Adams and fiancé Darren Le Gallo have been together for 13 years, and got engaged in July 2008. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Aviana Olea, in May 2010, and the actress confessed she worries about "everything," including mothering and relationships.

"Every time I get stressed out or anxious, I say to myself, 'Just live and love. Feel love,'" she shared. "I think that's what I took away from my turning-40 meltdown. I have been operating out of fear, and I just don't want to do it anymore."

Adams will next appear as Margaret Keane in new Tim Burton film Big Eyes on Dec. 25. The actress is also scheduled to reprise Lois Lane in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and star as Dr. Louise Banks in Story of Your Life.
