LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Angie Harmon and husband Jason Sehorn are separating.

The 42-year-old actress and 43-year-old former NFL star were married for 13 years, and a representative for the couple told People magazine the split is amicable.

"For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives," the rep said.

Sehorn proposed to Harmon on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in March 2000, and the couple got married in June 2001. The pair have three daughters: 11-year-old Finley Faith, 9-year-old Avery Grace and 5-year-old Emery Hope.

Harmon spoke to relationship website Your Tango in 2011, and admitted marriage is "a lot of work." The actress currently stars on TNT series Rizzoli & Isles, which films in Los Angeles, while her family resides in Charlotte, N.C.

"We don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home," she related. "So I'm here. We sometimes meet in Texas, a two-and-a-half hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, so it's hard, but my children are so understanding."

Harmon came to fame as Ryan McBride on Baywatch Nights, and went on to star as Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She has portrayed Jane Rizzoli on Rizzoli & Isles since the program's inception in 2010.
