MONROE, La., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Duck Dynasty star Jep Robertson said his medical emergency while hunting earlier this month was due to meningitis and encephalitis likely caused by a mosquito bite.

Robertson told Fox & Friends he's glad to be alive after he had a seizure while in the remote Louisiana woods Oct. 19.

He was hospitalized and put on a ventilator, though the reality star said he doesn't remember what happened. He said he didn't even recognize his family members at first.

"I feel terrible about that, because I know that really hurt her feelings," Robertson said of the reaction by his mother, Miss Kay.

Robertson said he tested "kind of positive for meningitis and encephalitis."

Four days after the medical scare, he was taken off the ventilator.

"When he came out and grabbed my hand, it was such a sigh of relief for us just to know that he knew who we were, so it was pretty emotional," his wife, Jessica Robertson, said.
