NEW YORK, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift revealed during an appearance on ABC's The View on Wednesday that she plans to donate all proceeds from her single "Welcome To New York" to the city's public schools.

"I love it here," the 24-year-old said of the Big Apple. "I love it so much ... I don't think I told anybody this before, but the fans were wonderful enough to make [the song] No. 1 on iTunes. It's selling really well -- which is good, because I'm donating all of my proceeds to New York City public schools."

News of the singer's generous donation comes days after she was named 'ambassador' to New York City by the city's official tourism organization, NYC & Company.

"We're deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single 'Welcome to New York' to benefit NYC public schools," said Department of Education spokeswoman Devora Kaye.

"Welcome to New York" is the third single from the singer's fifth studio album 1989. The track was released one week ahead of the album's debut on Oct. 20.
