Victoria Beckham named England's top entrepreneur of 2014

LONDON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Mother of four, fashion designer and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador Victoria Beckham was named Management Today's top entrepreneur in the U.K. for 2014.

Beckham, 40, earned her place at the top of the list based on the amount of jobs she's created with her fashion brand and her estimated wealth of 210 million pounds.

The magazine's editor, Matthew Gwyther, said the former Spice Girl's place on the list might be frowned upon given that some could argue she has "never been taught how to cut a pattern, or iron a pleat on a fashion course," however, he praised the former singer for leveraging her fame into a business.

According to the list, Beckham's brand has achieved a sales growth of 2,900 percent and an employment growth of 3,233 percent over the past five years.

Beckham launched her eponymous clothing label in 2008. In the U.S., the line is sold in a few upscale retailers, including Shopbob, ShopStyle and MyTheresa. Beckham recently opened her first store on London's Dover Street.

The runner ups on MT's top entrepreneur's list were siblings Amit & Meeta Patel of Auden Mckenzie (Pharma Division) Ltd, Mahmud Kamani of Boohoo.com, Julian Dunkerton of Supergroup and Roy MacGregor of Global energy.
