The British Monarchy account, which live tweeted the event, shared a photo of the queen sending out the tweet and created the hashtag #TheQueenTweets. Prior to her tweet, the account revealed queen Elizabeth II was the first monarch to send out an email during a visit to an army base in 1976.

The Information Age gallery documents the most importante events that have shaped the greatest technological inventions. The gallery is divided in six zones: The Cable, The Telephone Exchange, Broadcast, The Constellation, The Cell and The Web.

While the queen has stated in the past that she finds selfie-taking fans to be "strange", the Monarch has had her fare share of cyber-fun herself, and even (accidentally) photobombed a couple of Hockeyroos players taking a selfie in July.
