LONDON, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Trick or treat, give us something good to read.

Author J.K. Rowling is giving a Halloween gift to her readers in the form of a 1,700 word story about one of the more malicious Harry Potter villains: Dolores Umbridge.

The story will cover Umbridge's background and is intended to give insight into why she became such a vindictive, evil witch. She is also the only villain other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent scar on Harry during her reign of terror at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

In the story, Umbridge was sent to Azkaban prison for her persecution of Muggle-borns.

The story will be released on Oct. 31 on the Pottermore website.
