LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Renee Zellweger doesn't care that you don't recognize her.

The 45-year-old actress gave a lengthy statement to People on Tuesday, one day after her appearance at a red-carpet event spurred criticism that she'd undergone too much plastic surgery.

"I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," Zellweger told the mag.

"It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door," she said of speculation that she'd gone under the knife.

Zellweger also said that fans recognize her only as a young actress, but not a woman in her 40s.

"Perhaps I look different. Who doesn't as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I'm happy," she said.

Zellweger hasn't starred in a film since 2010, though she's due to return to the big screen with next year's The Whole Truth.
