NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Frankie Grande has been cast in Rock of Ages on Broadway.

"I'm so unbelievably excited!" he told People. "I have wanted to play Franz ever since I saw the show. I think it is one of the best, funniest, most clever roles."

"I've actually had three final callbacks since the show originally opened," he revealed. "Every time I made it down to the final two people, they went with the other guy. The first time I wasn't blonde. The second time I was too blonde. The third time I was too short. That is how Broadway works."

Rock of Ages is set in 1987, and follows aspiring rocker Drew Boley as he works at Hollywood bar The Bourbon Room. The character falls in love with would-be actress Sherrie Christian, and must work to save The Bourbon Room from being demolished by German developers Hertz and Franz Klinemann. The musical features songs by Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar and Poison, among others.
