LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Uma Thurman's ex-fiance Arpad Busson is suing the actress for custody of the former couple's 2-year-old daughter, Rosalind.

A spokesman for Thuman told Us Weekly that it's "unfortunate that this very private discussion regarding Mr. Busson's visitation rights and his participation in decision making has been made public," but the actress' team remains "optimistic" that the parties will be able to reach an agreement.

The Kill Bill star, 44, called off her engagement to the London investor in April. The pair, who were originally set to marry in 2009, reconciled in 2011 and welcomed Rosalind in 2012.

Since their split, Thurman has been linked to longtime collaborator Quentin Tarantino, but she squashed the rumors in August claiming their relationship "is pretty much what it's always been." Busson, on the other hand, is dating actress Kristin Scott Thomas.

Thurman has two other children from her marriage to Ethan Hawke, Maya, 16, and Levon, 12.
