LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- On the heels of last summer's tongue-in-cheek blockbuster 22 Jump Street, Hollywood has decided that the world needs another television reboot. Next up is Baywatch, the 1990s melodrama about Los Angeles lifeguards, which made stars out of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who starred in Hercules last July, will step into Hasselhoof's signature red swim trunks for a big-screen adaptation of the classic series. The 42-year-old wrestler-turned-actor confirmed the news Thursday on Instagram, along with a shirtless photo of himself on a jet ski.

"Rumors are true... we're making #BAYWATCH the movie," he wrote. "Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell."

Johnson also promised to bring back Batwatch's iconic slow-motion running scenes.

"Cue slo mo running on the beach... #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sean Anders and John Morris (the duo behind Horrible Bosses 2) have signed on to direct.
