HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Five years after the release of the surprise smash hit Zombieland, Sony Pictures is stepping up efforts to produce a sequel to the 2009 horror film.

Screenwriter Dave Callaham, the writer behind the latest Godzilla remake and contributing writer on Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man, is attached to pen the script under the supervision of returning director Ruben Fleischer.

Of the three primary actors associated with the Zombieland-- Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone -- none are attached to the newly-announced project, and all have seen their careers soar since the original film was released.

"I'm not sure [a Zombieland sequel] is the right thing to do," Harrelson told Total Film in 2011 when asked about a second film.

"It's one thing to do it when it came out real good and it made a lot of people laugh, but then to do a sequel ... I don't know. I don't feel like a sequels guy."
