Jared Leto investing in Reddit

The San Francisco-based company announced Tuesday it just closed a $50 million round of outside funding.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Academy-Award winning actor Jared Leto has been named as one of the investors that participated in news website Reddit's last fundraising effort.

The San Francisco-based company announced its new set of investors in a blog post Tuesday, where they also revealed the company closed a $50 million round of outside funding.

Reddit's lead investor is Sam Altman, a blogger, programmer and entrepreneur that presides over the seed accelerating company Y Combinator.

Other prominent names featured in Reddit's new list of investor are rapper Snoop Dogg and PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel. Ron Conway, Paul Buchheit, Jessica Livingston, Kevin and Julia Hartz, Mariam Naficy, Josh Kushner and Yishan Wong are also on the list.

In its post about new investor Reddit said it planned to use the new funds to "hire more staff for product development, expand our community management team, build out better moderation and community tools, work more closely with third party developers to expand our mobile offerings... improve our self-serve ad product, build out redditgifts marketplace, pay for our growing technical infrastructure, and all the many other things it takes to support a huge and growing global internet community."

Reddit was founded in 2005.
