Lena Dunham to pay book tour openers following criticism

"The fact that Gawker pointed this out really proves Judd Apatow's saying that 'a good note can come from anywhere,'" Dunham tweeted after the online publication drew attention to the fact she wasn't going to pay her book tour openers.

NEW YORK, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Lena Dunham raised a few eyebrows Monday after reports surfaced that she wasn't planning to pay the opening acts of her upcoming book tour, but the actress has already changed her mind about the situation.

Dunham's anticipated essay collection, Not That Kind of Girl, was released Tuesday. In anticipation of the book tour that will follow, Dunham began receiving auditions in August from local performers from the 11 cities that she'll be visiting.

The New York Times wrote Saturday that the actress' tour would be a literary circus, and in turn Gawker published a piece Monday titled, "Lena Dunham Does Not Pay."

When the reports made their way to the Girls creator she took to social media to announce she had decided to pay her opening acts. She will be doing so in college credits.

"As an artist raised by artists, no one believes more than I do that creators should be fairly compensated for their work," Dunham tweeted Sunday, adding that she had "ensured that all opening acts will be compensated for their time, their labor and their talents" after noting that "some good points were raised" by the media.

Dunham sent one last snarky comment Gawker's way before concluding her message.
