LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- FKA Twigs took to Twitter on Sunday to address recent racist attacks.

The 26-year-old singer has become the target of mean and racist tweets since news broke of her relationship with actor Robert Pattinson. The couple were first seen together in August, and were spotted holding hands and cuddling in Venice Beach last week. FKA Twigs has been bombarded by comments like, "I can't believe I have changed robert Goddess Kristen for this monkey @FKAtwigs."

"I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week," the singer responded on Twitter. "Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it's unacceptable online."

Many of the comments directed at FKA Twigs included comparisons to Pattinson's ex-girlfriend, Kristen Stewart. He and Stewart co-starred in the Twilight series of films, and dated for several years before their very public breakup. The couple split in July 2012 after the actress was photographed kissing married director Rupert Sanders.

FKA Twigs released her debut studio album, LP1, in August.
