Amanda Bynes arrested for DUI in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Amanda Bynes was arrested for a DUI Sunday in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old actress was taken into custody at 3 a.m. PT, and charged with a misdemeanor for driving under the influence of "a controlled substance." Bynes was held on $15,000 bail, and released later that day. She is scheduled to appear in court October 23.

Bynes was previously arrested for a DUI in 2012, and pleaded no contest to wet reckless, a lesser drinking-related offense. She avoided jail time, and was subsequently placed on three years probation.

Bynes has struggled with mental health problems for years, but seemed to have improved in recent months. She completed inpatient treatment for mental illness in December, and enrolled in classes at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
