LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Kanye West made a surprise appearance at LA Trade Technical College on Friday. The 37-year-old rapper reportedly spent about two hours discussing his life experiences with a group of around 40 students from the digital communications department as well as troubled youth.

West's drop-in at the school is part of the rapper's community service requirement stemming from an incident he had with a paparazzi in July of last year. During his visit, West spoke to the students about his struggles in the music, design and fashion industry as well as his inspirations.

"I've listened to Kanye since I was younger, but I can't rate him as a teacher because he didn't come to teach a fashion class," a student told Vice. "He just spoke about his inspirations. He didn't try to be a teacher, he simply spoke about how life really is."

Although West was sentenced to 240 hours of community service, 24 sessions of anger management and two years of probation in his battery case against a photographer he hit at LAX, this is the fourth time on record that he visited LATTC to talk to students.
